I used a 1/8” I think cotter pin before.
You’re also better off replacing it as a complete pre bled unit.

I made a hairpin spring pin dealieo for mine out of a piece of 1/8" welding rod, I tend to work on this pile of shit a lot.

never had much trouble bleeding them, just push the slave cylinder in from underneath, it'll push all the air out

I replaced the whole set up as a prebled unit 2 years ago so it's all new parts, the stupid pin just came out.
