Changed my rear disc brakes Friday a week ago on my 99 sierra z71.

Well today I drive from work to home and I notice some smoke coming off my drivers side from where my e brake is.

My lights been on forever (since I've had the truck) and I've never messed with it.

It don't do it all the time and is rather annoying.

Does the caliper move on its sliding pins freely?

Do the pads move in the bracket freely?

Does the piston(s) in the caliper return freely?

Have someone scan it to get the codes out of the ABS. Whatever code is in there is most likely not related to the issue, but it is good to document issues.

As far as I know they all move freely and the only codes its pullen are exhaust codes.

I've heard it could be the caliper sticken or trying to, but that smoke isn't coming from the caliper area but rather from inside the area where the parking brake is.

did you replace just the pads? or pads and rotors? one parking brake cable my be stuck and draggin the parking brake. the cables rust inside the coating and get stuck. I've seen new rotors smoke sometimes when they are replaced. they sometimes come with an anti rust coating that likes to burn off. jack up that tire and spin the wheel and see whats draggin. also while your spinning the tire have someone apply and release the brakes and see if they are releasing properly.

the e-brake on those are fucking shit and the brake liner probably feel apart and jambbed around.

you could have fixed this yourself in the time between your 2 posts, go out side, take the wheel off and look at it.
