For everyone's information
The California Wilderness Coalition has just released a report calling for wilderness designations for 7.4 million acres of land in that state including:
1. A 5,841 acre addition to Granite Chief Wilderness
2. A 30,613 acre addition to the Desolation Wilderness
3. A new 31,107 acre wilderness around Meiss Meadow
4. A new 48,410 acre wilderness around Freel Peak
This is a total of of more than 180 square miles to be carved out of the Tahoe Basin, Tahoe N.F., El Dorado N.F. and the Toiyabe N.F. We can assume that places like Spyder and Barrett Lakes and Rubicon Springs will be on the hit list. The remaining 11,380 square miles is spread throughout the rest of the state.
The CWC is also planning an full scale legal assault on private property owners with holdings within the above listed areas. It is their intention to completely encircle Tahoe with restricted public lands.
I'll provide a link to the maps later this afternoon
