I currently do not have power steering in my truck and I am geting tired of making my arms sore every time I go wheeling, so I m going to add it. My question is, besides a steering pump what else will I need to get? I.E. will I need a new steering box?

Thanks

i think you may need to get the steering box too. go to the junkyard and compare the two. i really think that you won't need anything else though!

you need:

pump, box, lower half of the steering column shaft (that has the slip-joint part on it as this is a different length than the manual box shaft), all hoses, brackets, and the tube-type cooler from behind the grille.

do yourself a favor and take all of the mounting bolts too, been there, done that!

I'm doing the same thing, am still getting all my parts together, make sure you snag the new mounting bracket you will need for the pump, thats important, yes you will need a new sterring box. My arms were mush by the third day on the 'con. so your not alone....

You'll need what Nate sez, AND also the lower drive pully and the 4 bolts that hold it to the crank pully. Don't forget to pickup a drive belt too.

You all forgot to mention the idler pulley & bracket, too..........

Quick question, how important is the loop that goes out behind the grille? I did the swap on my 80 PU using an 85 4-runner box, 1st gen reservoir, 86 PU lines, pump off an 86 Turbo motor, bracket and idler from an 88 motor. I couldnt get the hard line loop to mount to the core support easy, so I skipped it........I was in a hurry.

it cools the fluid, I'd say it's kinda important.

I have a 83' Toyo 22r. Im in the middle of doing a power sterring conversion myself. The truck had power steering before I bought it, but it wen't out. A manual steering setup was installed. I have the new power steering pump and gear box all hooked up, where do the two "Air Hoses" go that attach to the pump? Ive been all over the net and can't find anything. Thx

you going have two vaccum hose that goes to the injector area. While turning in parking lot it will increase the idle. You really dont need them.

I did this on my 85. It took me all week-end (I'm slow). You will also need the pulley for the pump and the V-belt that mounts to the harmonic balancer pulley. I went to bone-yard and found an 85with PS and took off EVERY single part. Make a list on paper with every part you'll need, otherwise you'll be chasing parts a lot.
Gnarls.
