well, i have an 85 with a 22re in it. i adjusted the valves a while back with the engine cold, so i left them a bit loose. it has always been a bit noisey, so yesterday, i readjusted them, this time with the engine warm to .008-intake and .012- exhaust. put everything back on, fire it up, and it sounds and runs great, until it warms up again. as its warming up, it starts making a clattering sound, almost like a bad tensioner or timing chain or something. i replaced the timing chain, tensioner, guides, etc. may 7k ago if that. it never made thi noise until i adjusted the valves. i pulled it back apart, rechecked everything, and everything is in spec. any ideas? has anyone ever had this problem before?

i just got don'e talking to a mechanic at a shop here in town, and they toldme to replace the valve cover gasket. the mech. said that a lot of the times an old gasket will crush down too far and the rocker arms will come up and start slapping the bottom of the valve cover. anyone ever heard of this? i guess its worth a shot if 7 and 11 don't work out. i don't think its the tensioner because i just changed it. and i don't see how the oil pump could start making noise right after i adjusted the valves.
