I'm running propane now on a 84 chevy 350 and am trying to determine the total advance and how to limit it for the propane on a HEI dizzy?

V8's are limited to about 41* advance.(light cruise full vac/mech advance)
dist cap is 360*/ 8 cyl = 45*

You can't go too far without having crossover to the adjacent post.
Rotor phasing will affect this also.

Before I swapped in my new engine I was running about 50* total timing on my old 350 in my 77 K5. I had about 15* initial, no vacuum and about 50* total at higher RPM’s. Propane loves the advanced timing. I’d just adjust it till it starts to ping, then back it off a tad and call it good.

45* of rotation at the crank is only 22.5* of rotation at the distributor.

Keep cranking the timing till you get you hear pinging, then back it down a few degrees. Propane likes timing and compression.
