I have a AA plate #711112ns that mated a T18 and a dana 18 tcase. I dry fit it to the sm420 I just picked up and it looks like it fits. Some of the extra holes in the plate were sealed off. First question will this adapter work for Sm420 to 3 or 4 speed L.C. T case. I will need to pick up the spud shaft and other seals, bearings and etc. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to the AA instead of a plate style Sm420 adaption. Does any one recognise the AA part number? Thanks.

Are you sure about the number? That 711112ns number, I believe is of an old stlye but looking through my old catalog can't find a ***112ns # that relates to Toys or heeps.
Can you take a picture of it?
Mike

Mike, you must be Travis's Dad. Thanks for the reply. How did those axles work out. Did Travis get his 40 back together? I wish I had a digital camers but I don't. I have a few options I have a three speed tcase, but I'm sure it needs a rebuild, 2 four speed tcases or The dana 18. The problem is that dana has no shifters. Twin stick style. With the amount of cruiser parts I have i think it could be smart to stay with LC parts. I could just sell the t18 adapted to the dana 18 start all new but it would be nice to not have to buy a plate. Back to the plate it has 8 holes on the tranny side and 10 on the tcase side. It is 4 inch's thick. It also has two holes in the bottom to bolt up a cross member. Thanks again for the info. Tom

I own an FJ40 and my brother owns a jeep.
Before I put the th400 in I had baught a new AA for my sm420 to tlc 3spd.
My brother was building his jeep at the time and needed an adapter for his sm420 to spicer18 TC, except for the spud shaft and a different TC bearing to AA it fit fine.
But to be sure I called a knowledgable friend of mine and he said there the same adapter block the extra holes are for TLC & SPICER18. Now from T18 to sm420 no clue, just make sure the rear bearing on trans is retained and youle be fine.
I remember paying $235 for mine after I broke the early style. Its the spud shaft that will cost you now good luck & happy trails.

Thanks for the reply, I called AA today and they were unsure about the part number then said it was a sm420 adapter. But older being that it is 4 inch's instead or 4.5. So the spud shaft purchase may be tough on a older model. Alright who got a spud shaft the right size for me? If not sell the lot to a jeep guy and start new. <IMG SRC="smilies/pissed.gif" border="0">
