my rear bumper/ swingout came w/ an air tank...don't know much about compressors. anyone have ideas? the obvious ones to me were ARB (don't need it for the lockers, going w/ ox or detroit) or a York (of which I know nothing)

other than airing tires, running tools, or that cheesy cooler, any other uses?

from what i know about yorks, they come out of junked semi's, re-builds run 600 bones, and the vehicle has to be running? thx

Yorks came on anything Ford for a long time. Some Volvo's also,

I run a York in conjunction with a 3 gallon tank. It came out of a Wagoneer in a salvage yard for $40. You can find them in Volvos, Wagoneers and Fords. Depending on the vehicle it came out the fittings will be different. They can be mounted on 2 sides for a vertical stance and horizontal stance. Do a search on on-board air and you will get a lot of tech type articles. www.onboardair.com sells items for setups with Yorks.

You could pull a York out of a Wagoneer for less than $50 at the pick-n-pull type junkyards. Brad Kilby sells new ones for a whole lot less than $600. Go to www.onboardair.com for more info and links because you definitely have been given some bad info. You also might try a search here or on Yahoo on Yorks or on-board air. The info is out there if you look for it.

Exactly! I spent $50 for the York and about $250 for all the other crap. It was money well spent because it does Kick Ass! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I got a 3 gallon tank for $29 with 3 fittings from www.truckn.com
I ran 3/8 copper line to a water/oil filter and then to the tank. All the fittings, gauges, regulater, safety valve, check valve, 3 way crosses and line ran about $150 or so. It inflates my 36x12.5 sx from 0-25 psi in less than 2 minutes.
