OK guys-I'm getting ready to (finally) do the sas on my '89 extra cab next weekend. I am so pumped! Anyway, when ya'll did the swap, what were your shacke angles before the springs settled? I have the 4" lift springs and 1.5" longer than stock shackles, all from all-pro. I think thats the only question i have (right now anyway). Thanks

I think most people have commented that the shackle angle is innitially pretty steep, but as the springs settle some it will come out right...

Here's some pics'w/Allpro 4" springs in front. This is approx.4-5days after being mounted. They have settled some since then.

Here's the rear right after being mounted and dropped on the tires. They are 5" Allpros mounted 4.5" forward of the stock front hanger. They also have settled some since being down.

The ride is great on and offroad w/no swaybar, much better than the stock IFS.

Ditto on the front, but my rears were a little more. I would say approx. 15 degrees. I see you made it back and are erady to start. Good luck, hope our discussion helped. Call me again if you have any questions.

I would post a picture of my shackles, but I don't have any good shots of the shackles, and my truck is on the lift at work awaiting a new tranny

my shackel angle actually sit slightly forward when i intially installed the allpros, scared me that i might have measuered something wrong. now they are kicked back like 15-20 after a few thousand miles and 2 mild trails. theyre front springs work(flex) really, really good, im still trying to figure out how to get them to work better in the rear

initial angle on the front was about 25 deg (5" springs) they have settled to about 45 deg now. rear springs were dead vertical at install, and have settled to about 20 deg.
total settling on my install was 3-1/2" to 4" from initial install height, I had only allowed for 2" when i set up shock mounts- i've got to rework the rear in the near future.

fyi:

use a torch or plasma cutter to cut thru the frame for the new spring mounting tubes! on my 87 there were 2 layers of frame, and an internal gusset! like to broke my wrist w/ a hole saw and a old 1/2 drill motor!

have fun!

it's definately a GREAT setup!

I already cut those holes in the framerails for the shackle tubes. We used a hole saw for the 2 layers of frame and blew the gusseting out with a torch. I would have used a plasma cutter, but the only guy i know who has one can't get it to stay lit

Thanks for all the replies. On the rear springs, did you guys bolt the shackle on and bolt the spring to it to get a measurement for the forward hanger or did you measure 5" forward of stock hanger like all-pro says? If you measured 5" forward, where do you measure from? Hole to hole? Just want to make sure all my measurements are right. I don't need any setbacks-its my daily driver and at the end of the weekend I need to get back to school !
Thanks

hey!

i choose to set the axle back an 1-1/2 for better clearance, so far i've had zero contact on the rear fender wells running 35" bfg's on 15 x 8 wheels w/ a standard offset.

i mounted the rear spring hanger 4.5" in front of the stock location. my 35" bfg mudders on 15x10, 3" backspaced wheels where nearly destroyed in the fender well, ive moved the perch on the axle forward an inch and cut a little sheet metal to fix....and i have a 2 inch body lift.

i cant see how they figure these springs give the advertised lift, mine sagged to like 2.5" of lift(rear), but the fronts seem to be pretty close and flex is definitely their strong point. the highway ride seems even better than when i was ifs
