Just curious if a stock Tahoe can make the loop. I'm going to be taking my rubi there in a few days and my BIL wants to go along.

He shouldn't have a problem. A lot of the alpine loop is just rough trails...

He won't have any problem as long as he has a clue how to drive. Rough trails is a stretch in my opinion. More like a typical forest service road, mostly small rocks and gravel.

Is california pass even open yet?

If there is no snow and he can drive it should be easily doable.

i know black bear, pougkipsie and imogene are all still snowed in.

Engineer and Cinnamon are open from what I have heard. The gate on Pougkipsie was opened this weekend, but not sure if its clear the whole way. Corkscrew and Yankee Boy are also open. I would guess California will be open in a few weeks. Once I get a new update from the Ouray county office I will update this info.

Just did the alpine loop 2 days ago, full size trucks may have some issues above treeline, but as long as he doesn't mind some dings to his skid plate he should be fine. We took mineral creek down, Poughkeepsie looked like it's seen a good amount of traffic. Should be all the way open soon I would think.

I ended up doing engineer pass last Thursday while he pussed out and went shopping/sightseeing. It was an absolute blast.
