OK, I've been doin' some math on which tranny I want to use. Andre put a bug in my ear about using an NV4500 instead of the SM420/465 for the overdrive.

The math says that with my trip-tcase setup and a Cummins 4bt, using an NV vs. an SM will lose me a whopping 1 inch per second at 900 rpm's (6"/sec vs. 5"/sec) but will gain me about 20 mph at 2500 rpm's. Thus, I can easily cruise at 70 at a meager 2K rpm's:smokin:. Therefore....

Anyone got a line on good used NV4500 at a fair price?

I have driven Andre's 4bt and you will be glad you chose the NV4500. Beef the heck out of the tranny crossmember.

These guys have new and rebuilt NV4500s

Good for you Perry... 5th gear is nice, I am at about 2000 at 75 with 35's and 4.10s. I was in the same boat as you and sold a Saab to buy a transmission (logical choice, right?)...

I too have driven Dre's 4BT. Extremely sweet!

Selling a Saab for your cruiser? That's a no brainer! I just sold my diesel chevette on ebay. Got a whopping 1200 for it. That'll help but it won't cut the mustard.

Next goes my project Samurai. It's gotta a buncha whacked out designs on it, but it's ultimately unfinished. It'll be interesting to see if anyone wants it. It boasts 3/4 ton axles, hydro-steer, hi-steer, a whackadelic suspension, full cage, turbo diesel, yada, yada, yada...
