i know there are 1000's of smog posts but its hard to weed through everythingand find out what i need so please help bec i need to get it smogged

it failed on the co
15 mph was max, 1.56, meas 2.18
25 mph was max 1.36, meas 1.92

please help out

jet it down as far as you can go. A 96 jet is the smallest here. Go to the dealer for the jet. Then there is a small diaghram on the side thats round. Replace that.

i had the same results come from the truck i bought and supposedly didnt pass, but i changed the oil and ran some lucas oils fuel system treatment and passed with flying colors when i took it in. just my personal experience.

ok i went back the guy checked for free, i retarted the timing from 4 to 0 and turned up the idle, it got worse, the place is closed but he said on mon advance the timing and turn up the idle. should this work?

Colorado Test


1. New plugs
2. New oil & filter
3. New PVC
4. Pull and clean the EGR, Clean the passage ways
5. Pour 2 to 4 bottles of good rubbing alcohol
into the tank, then a good highway run on the way to the test.

Works for me on my 85 Hilux 4x4 and 81 FJ60

If this is an 83 then there should be an air injection valve that is electrically switched on the intake manifold towards the front of the engine. If you unbolt it and take it apart and rip the valve out of it, it will dump lots more oxygen into the exhaust, helping the CO emissions. It's very common for tis valve to get stuck and if you take it apart internally and bolt it back up then no one will know and it will burn cleaner. The only draw back is a possibility of cold backfires and a savy smog tech watching for elevated levels of 0xygen.

just so other people who have the same problem can search for this one too, it passed today, all i did was turn the mixture screw in 1 full turn and it passed with flying colors, everything went down, A LOT

and magically the 1 turn made it exactly a 14.7:1 mixture :eek:

Shit ,I failed the HC and CO ,do you guys have a tips on correcting this? a new cat maybe?

ok to pass emissions do the following it will allow to get by with flying colors,i know this because every 240sx owner with a engine swap does this and passes with flying colors
go to autozone or napa and buy seafoam,add half of it in your gas tank then drive home let the motor run pull the pcv brakebooster vacumm line off and let it sip it form the can and keep it revved it will stutter and turn the engine off let it sit for 5-10 minutes come back start it up and rev the piss out of it and it will smoke like crazt and that should fix your problems if it is a gunk build up

it pretty much cleans your hole engine your carb if you have and fuel injectors if have them,it cleans everything,just remeber not to let it sit for more than 10 minutes if you do it will start to corrode your piston rings
