I have done a search and found several anti-wrap bars that use a shackle at the front pivot point. Wont that allow the axle to twist under acceleration by pulling the bar back as the axle torques?

no, it tries to push the shackle mounted end up and down. on that type (like the one on my truck, which works very well i might add) the traction bar is 'basically solid' mounted to the axle, and it tries to rotate with the axle housing. it wont try to go front to back (so long as its mounted at a reasonable angle), just up and down.

you still need some kind of flexible connection at the axle (bushings or rod ends) so that as it flexes, and the mount moves slightly side to side, it doesnt try to bend the mount and finally fatigue it off.
