So, yesterday I was riding an 07 Honda Rubicon 500 and about the time I got to wondering where the stock air intake was (behind the gas tank) it took a small drink of ice water and shut down.

:homer: In hind sight I should have known better seeing that I've removed the intake before. But anyway my question is for those of you that run snorkels on these newer quads (I cut my teeth on big reds) if going deep enough to warrent a snorkel is an exhaust stack needed or do they have enough compression to take it?

On that size and as pictured depth wise no exhaust snorkel is needed.

And this is why I don't buy used quads. :flipoff2:

Most of the mud guys here I see don't run exhaust stacks. As long as you're running it's not that big of a deal it seems, but if you stall you're going to have a problem. Personally I have no desire to put myself in that situation, but if I did I would make a removable stack. Have the exhaust pipe going straight back, then keep a 90 with a section of pipe around for when you are riding in that type of area. Keep in mind that if you have an exhaust leak water can get in it, so I'd go through the entire exhaust and make sure everything is solid.

Out of all the snorkled quads and SxS I've seen around here, there is only about 10-20% of those running exhaust snorkles. Most keep the RPMs up to push the exhaust out.

And this crap is why every one at the Honda dealer knows me by name, they knew what I did when they saw the list of crap for it...
Oh well, it was due to have all the fluids changed anyway.:flipoff2:

So you did milk the oil? Those bikes have a shitty crankcase vent design. You will be lucky if it doesn't end up needing piston and rings in the near future....

Didn't milk it (surprizingly sp*), changed it because it shut down undewater... The oil I drained out was blacker than the oil out of my 7.3 though.
