I just rolled my 83 pickup and have decided to cut the top off the cab except the windshild and cut out the back of the cab and the front of the bed and put seats in the bed and build a full cage of coures. My problem is that when I put the seats in the bed the persons head would be up to high. I could lower that section of the bed but the gas tank and part of the frame look like the might be in the way. Has anybody done this? If so please tell me how you solved this problem.
Thanks

I was looking into doing the same
so I bought some Subaru Brat rear
seats,if you mount them directly
to the bed without the seat bracket
you can lower them about 4in so the
seat will sit about 6in.above the bed
I never got around to doing it yet but
that is what I have planned, hope this helps
also you can get those inexpesive fiberglass
bucket seats and mount them directly to the
bed,those should sit pretty low

I'm in the process of installing a rear seat in my 85 PU. I chose a Suzuki Side Kick seat. It fits perfectly between the wheel wells and they seem plentiful-cheap at the wrecking yards. I obtained the mounting bracket and seat belt harnesses with the seat. The top of the seat is about 8" from the bed of the truck - not real comfortable for adults but good enough for the kids. I'm using the roll bar from a 4runner and adding to it to make a cage. The 4 runner bar ($50 at the wrecking yard) has a good mount for the shoulder harness.

The height of the passenger’s heads being too high is a problem. Can you build your roll bar (front and back) just a little higher than the original cab height? Doing so would make it more comfortable and safer.

Do U have a short bed, or long bed? Have you thought of looking at a 4Runner to base your conversion off of? Have fun getting the cab to bed waterproof, I did this to a Nissan 2X4, and couldn't keep it from leaking.

I have a seat in the back of my Trekker. It's bolted right to the floor without any brackets. It's kind of goofy sitting there with your legs sticking straight out but there's lots of head room. My Trekker body sits about 1" lower than a regular box too.
To seal it don't use silicone, use autobody seam sealer, it works great, stays flexible and you can even paint over it.

Here is some shots of Jon Bundrants 1989 pickup. It's got a small seat in the rear for his kid(s).

Thanks for the ideas guys, and i dont have to worry about sealing anything because it will have no top at all just the cage. I really only wheel it in the summer, even before i rolled it water would leak though the windshiled and moonroof anyways.
Thanks

I got a seat from the junk yard out of an old Colt Vista. It fits perfect. It also has quick release pins at the rear so it will tilt up or even come out in a matter of seconds. Built the cage out of 2" wall tubing flush with the cab and there is plenty of room. The belt attach to the rear of the cage. Worked out good.

Hey!

I found some seats out of a Subaru Brat!
Remember them? They are hard plastic w/ handles and seat belts. I'm trying to figure out how to mount them now. It will be some type of removeable system, so I can still carry stuff without them in the way.
