Apparently, during the early 70's, Chevy used a Dana20 in some of the full size Blazers, and I just so happen to have one. I thought it was a Jeep Dana20 based on the exterior of the case, but after having to rebuild it, I found that it has a VERY unique bolt pattern up front. The bolt pattern sort of looks like Santa's face instead of the usual "Texas" pattern.

Anyone have any info on these? Is this bolt pattern the same as any other transfer case? What years did they use the Dana20? The previous owner of my SM465/ Dana20 combo didn't know what year it was out of, and just assumed 73. Sounded viable to me, so I assume 73, but I'd love to know for sure.

Thanks!

I think the only SM465/D20 combo was 69-70 Blazer and Jimmy. The Dana 20 was used until 75 I believe, but only with a 3 speed manual.

I'd love to have a picture of one for reference <IMG SRC="smilies/eyemouth.gif" border="0">

I don't think they even ran the 20 past 72. I pretty sure 71-72 only got the 20 behind the Saginaw 3 speed case. It would be the bottom of the line truck.
Find a picture of a 205 case for a 465 and see if it is the same bolt pattern assuming you have tha adaptor.

Hey Grim, do you know if they (D20s) ever came with the autos (TH 350)? We've got something funny going on with my brother's '70.

I am almost sure that someone posted on one of the 1st gen. boards that they had a stock 1st. gen with a Dana 20 behind a TH350. On the other hand, I have brochures from 1970 and 1972, and they list the Dana 20 with the three speed manual only. I know for a fact that some Dana 20s were used behind SM465s, and the brochure doesn't show that combo either, unless it was 1969 only - don't have that brochure handy. Maybe they installed the wrong cross member in your brother's truck at the factory - seems like that could have happened pretty easily. I have had the two sitting side by side, and it is very hard to tell the difference without measuring the drop. BTW, I am Blazer1970 at CK5, and I still didn't remember to measure mine - weather here in MI has not been conducive to being outside the last couple of days!

Well all you need to fit any case to any trans is the right adapters and sometimes the output shaft. It's totaly possible but I'm not real up on my 69-72's. I have a bud with a 72 that came with one factory and had a Saginaw with three on the tree. He swapped it out for a Built 700r and a 208 several years back. Every 70-72 K5 with the TH350 I have seen had a 205. That doesn't mean it wasn't available. I have never seen a 203 behind a 465 with my own eyes but they are out there.

I actually just picked up an SM465 and D20 combo with the factory adapter. It's the coarse 10 spline output from the SM and 10 spline input on the Dana 20. No idea what it came out of originally. Supposedly it was out of a Jeep.

I've seen plenty of the 465/203s, once drove across town to go buy a 205 for $75 out of a '75, turned out to be a 203. Needles to say, I came home empty handed.

dodg partz 1t, I don't need one (350/20), just trying to figure out a weird prob on the '70. If your peddling Dodge crew cab parts, you might try over on the TDR (www.turbodieselregister.com), some of those guys are into 4 dr conversions.

The adapter is about the same as the 465 to 205 approx 7" The 465 to dana 20 uses the course 10 spline (as stated above) and uses a coupler sleeve just like the 465 to 205 so the adapter is similer in length. I have seen a few of the 465 to 20 combination and found that a regular jeep/scout 20 will bolt up but it just doen't use all the holes as in the santa face:rolleyes:
