I have an 86 shortbed regular cab pickup that I am building up. I like the wheelbase on my truck but I would also like the added interior room of an Xtra Cab. I thought about putting an Xtra Cab body like Vova recently did and Brian Ellinger has, but then I started thinking about a later model Xtra Cab. I like the body style better and they have a lot more interior room. I'd probably put a stubby little flatbed on the back.

I know that Toyfamily and DRM have similar (but not the same) projects going on right now. How hard would this be to do? Relocate body mounts on the frame, possible crossmember/gastank interference (I plan on moving the gas tank anyway). What about A/C and heater connections? Steering column? Just wondering how do-able this is.

I would offer to help, but my project is far from conventional...

94 Xtracab cab
91 standard cab frame
60's front & rear
tube front clip and bed

As I get into it I will share what I find, but not your average cab swap as you can see

It's been discussed before, and again in the last couple of weeks. Try the SEARCH feature.

Did you read what I wrote? Did I sound like I am new around here? I SAID that I am following DRM's, Vova's, and Toyfamily's projects and I asked some pretty specific questions. Heater vents and A/C have been discussed before? Hmm... I must have missed those. Thanks for the help.

Thanks Paul. Now all I need to do is find a later model Xtra Cab. Anyone know where I can find one?

Gee Ross...maybe if you don't have anything nice (substitute 'helpful' here) then maybe you shouldn't say anything at all!

Thanks anyway!

The relocation of the rear body mounts was not hard, just ground them off and welded them 10" back. The horshoe crossmember hits though (85 x-cab frame). I cut the back seats out for a gas tank but this could have been avoided with a 1" bodylift. But in doing the gas tank relocation it's not aviodable to cut in to the cab. If you were keeping the tank in the same location you MIGHT be able to get away with it, because there is a gas tank area under the rear seat (on the tank side), but you'd have to measure to be sure. Now with the heater/ac I'm not sure, but don't see any problems because thats all on cab stuff. And the steering is the same and is about as hard to figure out as a crossover conversion (not at all). That is if your talking firewall to box, otherwise just find the newstyle column and then there will be no problems. hope that helps.
