...Which frickin' wire is it? It took us 3 hours to find the front speakers, couldn't find the rear (we're gonna run new wire, since he's gonna replace the speakers soon anyways)...

...But I can't find the damn antenna wire.

Anyone happen to know which one it is?

Thanks!

It's the BIG black one directly behind the left side of the unit. Kinda hard to miss (mine is a '93) and the rear speakers are located above the wheelwells. You will have to pull the entire side panel out to get to them. It is not hard to put everything back either, just pops back in place. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

The big black wire is the antenna wire, but not the wire to raise and lower the antenna. I am not sure which one it is on my 90 4Runner, because I just bought an adapter plug that would plug into the factory stereo wiring harness.

toyota factory wire codes for the stereo plug (harness)

blue/yellow = battery feed (constant power)
grey = ignition feed (switched power)
brown = ground wire
green = illumination wire (dash lights)
black/red? = power antenna wire**
pink/blue = power antenna wire**
pink = left front + (speaker)
purple = left front - (speaker)
lite green = right front + (speaker)
blue = right front - (speaker)
black = left rear + (speaker)
yellow = left rear - (speaker)
red = right rear + (speaker)
white = right rear - (speaker)

this should help on the wiring. this chart is standard for most toyotas from about 89 on. on the earlier toyotas the ground wire is white with a black stripe. The power antennas on most toyotas use two wires, usually it's a pink with blue stripe and a black with red stripe. Both wires will need to be tied together and then wired to the power antenna wire on your stereo. If you have the adaptor plug you'll notice the blue antenna wire actually loops at the plug and goes to two connectors. Also note that the earlier toyotas had a manual up/down switch just above the stereo that you had to push. I've been installing for 15 years now so if you need any info just PM me..... hope this helped.
