Ok I am very much a Jeep person and know jack and shit about Chevys. But I just had a '92 pickup fall in my lap for $100 so iam snatching it up.
Its a long box short cab barebones (not even a/c) with a 5 spd stick, and a Z code 4.3 V6 is the 1500 W/T cheyanne so it has the 2 headlight front on it. The only option it does have is the only important one as far as iam concerned, its 4wd. It has 120k miles on it.
It needs a clutch and the driver door handle replaced, and the release for the parking brake seems to not be there, and theres a pretty nasty long dent/scrape on the box that i dont care about, otherwise its all good.
I really just intend to everyday drive it at this point assuming the gas mileage isnt actually worse than my cherokee.
I really just want to know if there are any major defects in this year (like fuel injectors and regulators that need to be replaced more often than spark plugs) and what components i have in the drivetrain.
The Z code 4.3l V6 is obvious, and the rear end seems to be a standard 6 lug 10 bolt which shouldn't ever break with a V6, I dunno anything about IFS so ill have to get used to that and crawl under there to look at it (do i have a certain model of IFS or does that not apply like it would to a straight axle?). I assume the transfer case is either a np203 or 205 (theyre the chevy ones right?), but i havent bothered to look and dont know anything about either of those two anyways (probably similar to jeep np231 though) but iam completely baffled by the 5 spd, i might recognize it if i crawled under to look at it, (its snowing out and i havent gotten the new clutch yet so i didnt) but its so odd to have a stick in a chevy ive never even heard what models they were. how does that tranny compare to the v8 5 spd if there even was one, and do i have any major weak points or defects in the truck in general?
