When I build my flatbed I'm using ABS plastic sheet. I have a sheet and a half of 4' x 8' x1/4" left. It's not terribly cheap, and it's somewhat brittle (cracks if impacted hard).
If I was going to spend the $$$ on plastic sheeting again, I'd probably have gotten lexan and just painted it. The ABS is black, not clear, and has a wrinkled flat finish on one side and a smooth shiny one on the other.
