Just curious if anyone had actually gone rubber up with one of their cages and how it held up. Seems like a lot of flex in it compared to other ones I've seen. Still much better than the tin one Toyota gives us. Not trying to knock Allpro, especially for that price, just curious if it'd hold up.

Jon Bundrant did two rolls in his 4Runner with a custom cage that we build here in the shop. After the roll the cage was ok and not bent in any way. The cage was removed and sold. We built the first cage "kit" using Jons repaired truck as a model.

Every good post needs pictures right?

So that begs the question - how close in design is the kit to the custom cage that Jon was running during the roll?

Whats wrong Pat? Get a little spooked?
I like what I saw in the AP kit for a good start. I have a tubing bender and notcher,
I think if we added a few braces to that kit it would be plenty stout.

The kit is actually stronger than what he had in there before. The kit is made with DOM material, Jon's old cage was done with standard mild steel. The old cage did not have front legs, that come down in front of the dash, the new cage does. When Jon changes something, it's allways an upgrade from what he had before!

The kit definatly looks BEEFY, 3 stringers and lots of gussets, Don't see what more you could want. This is more then most jeeps run and they seem to take rolls fine

I have it. I think the only thing it could use is a bar across the dash. I am 6'4" and rarely hit my head on it too. I did remove the headliner and tuck it up as high as possible though. You can't bet the price either.

What's wrong Pat? Don't think your favorite, pipe, is up to the job?

I like the kit, don't get me wrong. The price is great. It just seems to me like it needs a bar that goes across the dash to stiffen the two front floor bars up. Possibly two to connect the plates on the floors, too. Jack's I hit with my hand and you can see movement. Compare that to Kongs and there is NONE. I walked around the jambo after the little spook and rattled several cages on both Heeps and Toys. I know most people wouldn't like the dash bar since it'd block most of the AC vents, etc. but it seems like it'd do a lot of good.
I'll probably end up going exocage here anyway, so I can keep most of the body when I roll. I know it's coming so might as well get prepared since Daddy's Girl can't drive!
Once again, I'm not knockin' Allpro's especially for that price.
By the way ChrisG if you see this, how's your eyes after the LASIK surgery? I'm considering it and wondered if yours is OK now a few months down the road?

No the Rock Truggy is a different rig, and has been sold. The above pictures are of Jon's origional 87 4Runner. FYI this is the first rig to get an All Pro solid axle swap!

So it's a 87 4Runner with a Tacoma front clip... that's either very wrong or very right, I can't decide which. I still like the original body style. What happened to the rock sliders? That must be a "work in progress"?

Also... Did Jon actually wheel the red 85 he bought on the UA trip? What happened to it?

The nerf bars came off to repair the body. We have just been too busy to finish the 4Runner up so it's been sitting there for a couple of weeks. It just needs a few days work and it will be ready for the trails again.

The 4Runner he picked up during the Ultimate Adventure was used to complete the trip, and once it came back to Hemet it was sold.
