I may have the opportunity to buy a Howell from a guy with a CJ that is putting it to pasture.

Has anyone had any experience with these? I still have the stock straight 6 in my Cruiser and I have heard nothing but great things from my Jeep buddies about the system.

I posted in the Cruiser section and noone know a damn thing about them.

TIA

I have a friend running it on his 4.2L YJ.

It seems to run great, he has had no big problems with it. It did seem like it ate up the first O2 sensor rather fast but it has not had any reliability problems and it never really gives big trouble. For a little while it would "whistle" like it had a vacum leak buit we could never find it and it ran perfect. Eventually it stopped so all must be well <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">

I have it on my 258 and it's great. It doesn't make it a powerhouse but it is extremely reliable and consistent. You can stand the Jeep on its tail and it purrs like a kitten. When it's really cold (like 10-15*) I have to let it sit and warm up for a while, but I don't drive it much when it's cold so it's not a problem.

Im kunfused. Your sig says 4.3 Vortec. Also, the non-California kit doesn't use a VSS.

Nolen,
Fancy meeting you here. jefe here. You helped me on the cruiser list with SM420/D18 to FJ60 swap issues. BTW, the swap is mostly buttoned up now. It's beautiful. Clearances fine. Driveshafts things of beauty with the Spicer 1310's on one end and the bullet proof Toy L.C. u-joints on the other.
To the point, I have several Jeep buddies with the Howell F.I. and they all love it. It's a lot cheaper than the Mopar MPI that I run, and unlike the MPI, can be adjusted. They especially like the adjustability. Besides the MPI, Howell F.I. is the only one of the aftermarket F.I.'s that I could recommend. Does Texas let you fool with the induction/smog system? The swap you're proposing would not fly in CA. unless you were doing it to a pre-74 rig.
regards, as always, jefe

Jefe,
Thanks for the answer. My rig is a trailer queen, so emissions are not a problem.

The local cops pull me over just to take a look and argue with me about if it is a "Jeep" or a "Land Cruiser."

I really like this idea, however, Propane would be my first choice. I just can't seem to find that "expert" I need around here for that swap!
