I burnt the AOD in my DD fullsize 87 Bronco, and I found a guaranteed used one from a 84 Mercury . I know that it will all bolt up, and the tailhousing comes off to expse the output shaft, but there is one issue. The Mercury uses a TV rod, whereas the Bronco uses a cable. Is there any way to make the cable work on this transmission with my cable? Are the brackets the same??

The output shaft on the car AOD (when you take the tail shaft off) is different from the output shaft on the 4x4 AOD, so you would need to dismantle and swap the output out of the 4x4 AOD into the car AOD.
And while it's apart you may as well swap the shift arm and T.V. arm onto the car AOD so you can retain your current T.V cable/shift mechanism. Sorry to be the one to give you the bad news.
