I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to step into a newer truck to replace my 2003 sierra 2500hd. Big deciding factor for me is what I could realistically get out of my truck...

Its a white ccsb, 4x4, 8.1 with 120,xxx miles, 4.10s, couple little upgrades here and there. Very clean and solid. I'd say 90 percent new. I looked for this truck for a long time before I found it a few years ago, there are not that many out there to get a good idea of what they are going for. I'm located in Californias central valley.

So what you guys think... what is a reasonable figure I could get out of this truck.

Eh, kinda what I was worried about... funny I look on cl and there are a bunch of brodozer duramaxs and 6.0s that are all over the map. Then just down the page there is that supercharged 8.1 the guy asking about that I just saw. 16 at a little dealer. Makes me think I'm being a bit optimistic

Put it on craigslist for $15k or whatever you need out of it and let it ride. You never know til you try.

I got a suprise payday on Saturday after randomly listing one of my trucks for what I thought was way above its value. Was on there for 1 day and the right guy just happened to see it.

Problem with a truck like yours is our fucked up gas prices dude. You won’t be happy with a 6.0 the only option is a diesel, and your only selling this for a down payment unless you go a couple years older. From experience, a diesel will pay for itself fairly quickly compared to that sweet ass 8.1, but damn them big block ls motors are sweet as fuck

I’d have given you $12k for it. But I’m from the rust belt, so I’m fine with paying a premium for a clean Cali truck. Unfortunately I bought that exact truck with a few more miles on it and a tiny bit of rust under the fender flares for $10k last month

the new gmc and chevy have a gas 6.6 401 hp option. and diesel pays for itself about 5 percent of the time, most don't need it. it is usually just a waste of money. and don't get me wrong, i like them also. but they are really not needed. hell i towed 15,000 with my 18 6.3 {420 hp}1500 silverado. i had it flat on the floor and it slowed down to 45 going up the very last part of raton pass. that was the only time it lacked for a bit of pull. every where else it ran as fast as i dared.
that being said i bought a 19 duramax. only because i wanted to get back into the long bed.

I own multiple 8.1 Chevys, my good buddy and my brother also. My brother hunted for months for your exact truck (if it’s as clean as you say) and literally found 3 on Craigslist (California) with as low of miles and as clean as yours for well over 15k. Each of them was sold within days.

He had to settle on a high mileage one with dents, dings, sun faded paint and needed work for 6k.

My buddy’s is probably one of the cleanest in existence. 2003 ccsb that has lived in his shop since new, 6” rancho lift, fully loaded leather crew cab with 48,000 miles on it that is showroom clean. He’s been offered 20k for it multiple times and he’ll not let it go.

These trucks have a very good reputation and quite a few people are hunting for your exact truck. Horrible fuel mileage, towing or not, but they’ll run with the same era diesels all day, super reliable and cheap to maintain.

Well shit, maybe it will be worth it to deal with the cl dummy's... if there was no way I could get close it 15k then I didnt want to deal with it but if it's in the scope of possiblablity them it would make it worth my time. Thanks everyone for their feedback so far.

Need to sell my Tacoma, otherwise I’d be all over that. For the P4x4 price of treefiddy :D

On CL they are in the 12 to 15 range. Burbs of that vintage are well under 10

My fil had a low mileage 8.1 with an Allison. Wish I coulda afforded it when he traded it in but I had just bought my dodge. Depends on your driving style and Foot size, my truck gets WAY better mileage pulling. That said, I could care less when it’s time to go play. I gotta take two rigs, 1 with Jeep and 1 with 5th wheel.
