This comes from a nissan patrol that belongs to a firend of mine!
it is a turbo diesel, and he wont explain how he broke it, but every gear has teeth missing and stuff! the ARB is fully smashed, ive never seen anything like it!
I have had an ARB in the back of my car for a bit over a year and have had no problems and am very happy with it! (im not paying them out, i just wanted to shoe you all)

It looks like something chunky got loose and was banging around in there. Tough luck, mate. What did the magnetic drain plug look like?

You are obviously not a Monty Python fan! (It's from a skit they did pretending to be in the Outback where they were in a pub and they were all called Bruce - oh well, ya had to be there!) Wasn't trying to razz you dude, just having some fun with my colonial cousin. Which part of Aussie land are you in? - I have cousins in Tazmania BTW.

i live in brisbane queensland! tasmanians are credited with being inbred (not true, its just they get paid out about it! i think you guys pay out southerners or something over there too? alabama comes to mind, i dunno why, but like that guy cletus off the simpsons!!!! hehehehehehe)

the magnetic plug was all furry and (covered in thousands of little pieces of metal, yeah maybe something did let go, and maybe he just kept loking/unlocking it) i dont really know but they are teh only possibilities as far as i see it, and mor likely is that he just kept locking it in while a wheel was spinning!

hey have you got a website krustykruiser?
cause i think i have seen it! and may even be on your readers rides page!

ARB....Already Broken
How many ARB units have you seen broken? I have only seen 2 (well, now 3) that broke under hard rock crawling, and both were admittedly abused.

The biggest gripe I hear about the ARB units is that damn special service tool needed to get the axles out when you bust one of the rear axles in a SF. That and watching your rear tire pull away from your truck when you bust an axle is enough reason to go FF to me.

I always thought the carrier on a FF arb unit was stronger than the stock setup since there is no window machined to gain access to the c-clips. Is the detroit carrier stronger yet? What other options are there?

I have never seen the locker itself disenegrated like that, however, I cannot count how many times I have dealt with Blown Fuses, screwed up compressors, air leaks, silenoid failures, air tank ruptures, etc....

I ran an ARB and I will credit the ability to disengage the front locker with keeping the Birfield breakage down.

I had horrible caster and my rig steered like crap with the Lock Rite and the ARB helped that too.

I am a fan of simplicity. I run a spool in the rear and a detroit in the front. Hell, if I could get away with it there would be a spool in the front too

I stand by what I said before....ARB=Already Broken.

Too much probability for failure in its design.

If I had Birfields and was going to do it all again, I would put a Toyota Electric locker in and convert it to cable actuation.

oh yeah! everything he owns cops hella ABUSE! no care and attention, probly never saw much oil (or definitely no oil change)
ummm, as for teh carrier, well, it would need a clean up, the little holes in it are all elongated and have a lip of steel formed over them! also the pins with the holes up the centre have been bashed over and you can't see up the middle!!! all the puins are scored really badly aswell! an are rounded and bashed at teh edges! (i'd say it started to break and he kept floggin it for another few weeks, before it finally let go)

see in the first pic the little round piece of metal with 4 holes in it, if you look at that again in the third pic, you will see the elongated holes and the lips on it aswell, the housing is in similar if not worse condition!

its pretty GONE

hey middy!!! WAZZZZUPPP
(ahyuk, hey git mah gun)
