I did a search and no swaps of this kind came up.....

I found a sweet 85 4runner that practically looks like a show truck. It is perfect in every way except for the stock 4.10 gears being controlled by an Automatic tranny. Since the truck is pushing 35" muds, it can barely get up to 65mph.

How much am I talking to swap transmissions? I plan on regearing anyhow, but is the thought of swapping trannys bad? Should I just consider 5.29 gears and be happy? I really don't like automatic transmissions. What are your thoughts on this. What is the ball park figure that I am looking at?

Would you be doing it yourself or having a monkeyanic do it?

You'll need the tranny, master cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch, clutch pedal. Maybe a few other misc. pieces. Shouldn't be too hard.

Anything I attempt turns into a HARD time consuming project. I would have a shop do it for me. I just want to know what kind of cost I am looking at, and where I should start looking.

For Gods sake don't let a shop do it! Just let me buy it and I'll do it myself!! How much are you paying for this creampuff??
By the way, you will also need a flywheel. You might even think about keeping the Auto. There is an '85 Auto 4Runner near me, don't think it's for sale though.

Aren't you a little busy yourself, right now?????

The truck I am looking at is up in Rhode Island and it is advertised for $4800 with no rust, 4" sus lift, 3" BL, 35" muds, and tricked out interior (I am telling you it looks like a show truck based on the pics). He has the stock steering (longer draglink) and stock gears pushed buy the 22re automatic transmission. aka SLUG

What i would do is find a another 85 from a yard and pull everything from it so you know what you have to put in yours. Or if that is not possiable just regear and see how it goes, if you don't like sell...

Very good advice from all. Since I am still in the shopping around phase, I am looking at all angles. Seeing that I can't actually buy a 4runner untill someone BUYS MY TACOMA!!! ....I am left shopping. Just looking at what my total costs would be. I want to try and include everything into my loan.

Are you planning to keep it on 35's? Then put in some 5.29's and a couple of lockers! Oh, and crossover.

I have the pedal assembly for sale and maybe the clutch master cyl. From an 85 4Runner.

$40 plus shipping from Sunnyvale CA 94089

I may have a clutch slave cyl and hard line too. I'll have to look.
