So how does one come up with a 2:1 hub reduction if the bevel gears have 24/14 tooth count? That comes up to 1.71
It's not about tooth count. Think about what moves and how it moves. The hub gear could be a mile wide and the planet gears could be an inch wide and it would still be 2:1

Think of it like a differential gear. Tooth counts don't matter because the pinions are really just idlers. Axle shaft is splined to one side gear, spindle is splined to the other, hub is keyed to cross.

Ha, no. Building the truck slowly, but life has been in the way. Working on a tow rig to do a bunch of camping this summer.

picked up the drop box as well, hoping to get back into tube work this month, finally settled in my new place.

Yup it'll get finished. I have swapped hub to the larger mx-23 hubs to get disc brakes, but otherwise the diffs are done, just waiting on the rest of the truck to get finished lol.
