ok...when the brake light fades in and out, that means it's a bad alternator right?? ok...just wondering cuz i think i remember that's correct. so...what are my options to more powerful alternators. i don't really wanna spend $700 for the Premier Power Welder alt, so what can i get to fit, and who has made and can make the adapters to make it fit?? i've got a 22re in an 1986 4Runner. thanks in advance guys.

It could also mean you're low on brake fluid. I'm running a 110 amp Downey alternator and it works great for me. I believe Performance Products sells Powermaster high output alternators too. If your alternator is bad, the brushes might need to be replaced. It only costs $20 at the dealer. The part # is 27370-35060. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

If your brake light fades in and out, you are low on fluid as previously mentioned. If your brake light AND charge light come on together, then your alternator is bad.
