So, you take one CA yugo SKS. Cut the welds on the muzzle brake, grind everything down. Redo the threads, then crown the barrel (because it was fucked up)

Next you toss a tapco stock on it, Change out the gas tube, install a tapco 922r gas rod. New action rod and spring.

Murphy's gunsmithing gets a call and some money. In return I get a wonderful box of goodies. In goes the Russian spring loaded firing pin. 922r hammer, trigger, and new sear. The sear getting a stone and polish trigger job for crisper falloff and shorter pull, and of course all new pins.

Wolff's gets some money and a lighter hammer spring and sear spring are installed.

Last, TX firearms gets some dough. In goes the mag release replacement that now gives it a forward eject like an AK rather than the stupid sks backwards pull one.

Still working on the muzzle brake, taking the CA mandated one, cut her down a bit, opening up the ports, milling it out to vent at a 10% angle. Kind of a custom one off, just to see how it works out once I am done.

(forgive the mess behind the pic, I was working on a XBOX controller that broke the shoulder buttons. You know, you pay $150 for a elite controller the fucking thing shouldn't break every 3 months :mad3:)

Are you going to use a scope or flip up sights?
Reflexive red dot with a 4x flip to the side magnifier. My goal with this was to build a sort of "DMR" weapon out of it.

I am interested in seeing if the scope will keep a zero mounted on a tactical rail. I personally never seen anyone have any luck with a scope on sks. I also have not seen a tactical rail for one either.

That isn't just a rail, that is the full Leapers UTG cover, so it should keep zero with no problem, we shall see.

Quit throwing the controller when people call you fat!

But really, the roommate isn't harsh on it. I know he doesn't beat on the controller or abuse it. Gave it to him as a xmas present last year and I have had to replace the shoulder buttons twice now. What a stupid fucking design.

I posted recently and admitted to gunfucking an sks and then returning it to original, hoping it would discourage this kind of thing. It was a waste of money, ammo, time, and it shot like a hunk of shit. I’m glad I kept the original parts and didn’t cut or drill anything. The work ieatrk84 has done with a basket case is what I see as a good direction for a project sks. Your gun, your fun.

That poor SKS.

In its original form at BEST at 100 yards it was shooting 4" MOA with custom loads.

Now, without the brake even on it, same loads, same distance, 2" MOA. I would say it has improved.

That said, I don't like the ergonomics of the wood stock the SKS has. I don't care for the sloppy trigger, the lack of good optics, that stupid fucking 10 round stripper clip crap. We will have to see how she shoots once I put the suppressor on it (woo 9 months to go I hope).

Again it was just a CA fucked yugo anyways, not really a big loss, and it was already fucked with the welded on crap so, I kind of unfucked it really.

I have also been pondering taking out the gas valve, and machining it so I can install a bolt and make the gas flow adjustable. That way it can be tuned for the suppressor, and subsonic rounds.

Well, it is an SKS.
Hell for that matter it is just a basic gun, not some $200,000 rare over under or something.

Couple things:

#1 There is an aftermarket adjustable gas valve you can buy for an SKS. I think it only fits a yugo too, but check that out.

#2 The only way youre gonna get a solid mount for an SKS is to drill and tap the receiver and put an AK style side mount on it. Every other design is total shit, functionally and aesthetically. Ive read somewhere where a guy hacked up a nice UTG AK gas tube rail system to fit an SKS. But ive only read mentions of it and couldnt find any more info. That might be a better way that anything else out there.

#3 The reason why everyone sticks with the 10 round factory setup is because its the only setup that works. Those detachable duckbill mags arent that reliable. Also, stripper clips reload really quickly with about 5 minutes of practice.

See I have yet to have any problems with them cycling. Part of that may be the fact I put in a lighter hammer spring, polished the bottom of the bolt and the hammer face. Causing her to cycle smoother, and that could be part of the issue.

Part could be that I did a bit of trim work to each mag so they click in and out smoother. No clue but I have no feed issues at all so far. now that said I have not tried putting cheap ammo into it (steel case) and that could change things.
