I've got a 700r4 which I was getting ready to install on my truck...Noticed it has a crack, about two-three inches long, close to one of the bolt 'holes', can it be installed with any future problems? or can it be welded before install?

drill a small hole in the end of the crack to keep it from spreading and weld it up.

You definatley want to weld it before installing it. If you don't it will continue to crack.

I second that. Drilling a hole is crucial. That housing is cast. Make sure you have someone weld it that knows how to weld cast. It requires a different method. This is for cast iron, but I'm sure the same idea goes for aluminum. Good Luck
