Any tips for straightening a winch drum shaft? I have access to a 50 ton press and machine gauges. Mine is bent. It moves quite a bit when powered up on the floor unmounted. It might be possible to press the drum off and make a new shaft, but short of that...any ideas?

Is the winch unusable?
Straightening it will only make it more susceptible to bending again.
Have you priced another drum?

Warn Bellview.

The steel is very soft compared to what I thought it would be. At least it is on the end. I had to use a puller to get the drive gear off and it left a dimple in the end of the shaft. Not mild steel soft, but not T1 either.

I could see about pressing the drum off, or even just make a new drum and shaft. Its not bent a lot, but you can see it when its turned on.

i would replace the shaft. the last thing i would want is for the shaft to break during a recovery knowing that it could have been replaced.
