I have some 16" 2 1/2" diameter coilover shocks set up to run dual-rate as far as springs go (one lower spring, the "doughnut" and then an upper spring.) Currently they are set up with 250 pound spring rate lower springs, 150 uppers.

I need to go to swap 2 of them out for 350 pound springs and would like to find a good source for springs. Looking for the best price on some Eibach-level quality springs or above.

There are some serious time delays when ordering from King too often. Sometimes months.

the best source for springs and shocks is Kartek, try kartek.com for the phone number. Kartek has a good selection of Eibach springs, and they have alot of the RaceRunner shocks in stock. They are also a good source for rod ends, misalignment spacers, bushings, weld on tabs and brackets and many other off-road performance parts. As far as I know Eibach and Hypercoil are the only source for 3.0" ID coils for the 2.5" shocks, they are both top quality but the Hypercoils are generally much more expensive. king has a few (those light blue 150 lb/in) springs custom made.

Goat1 and Dylan gave me a tour of the Sway-A-Way shop. I must say that I was very impressed. Seems as if they have no problem/delays with there product. Maybe you should have gone with them (Sway-A-Way) in the first place...

Maybe on the Sway-Aways as far as the time lag, only problem is that according to what I was told, Sway Away bought their design from King as an early design King came up with and then just mass marketed them. Since then King has made a number of redesigns, which wouldn't be present on the Sway-Aways. Thanks for the info though all!

I dont want to get into a shock war here but to set the record straight (from what ever smoke Brett blew up your ass)

You are correct that Sway-A-Way bought the design from Kuster not King (Lance King worked for Kuster and did most of the design, mostly just manufacturing and drawings, Walker Evans and Randy Anderson probably did most of the actual design) However, the only shocks that Sway-A-Way makes that are still Kuster design are the 3 in shocks(but have made some design changes). Sway-A-Way has designed and manufactured the 2" & 2.5" shocks from scratch.

So does that mean you are going to be doing 120mph across the desert floor in the Baja 1000? Cause that would be the only way you'd ever tell the difference, if what you said is true. Last I checked, your truck is a rock crawler. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

goat1: NO PROBLEM! I am always looking to find out the real skinny on the facts, and that's great info, thanks!

Lance: Reason I am always researching is 'cause if I am going to spend that type of crazy coin for 4 shocks, I am already looking to get the most for my money! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> I'd think most folks would be honestly interested in the results of that type of research though so sharing info up here should be good for all. But yeah, I can't keep this under control right now (death wobble) over 30 mph, much less 120! So you might be sorta right anyway. LOL!

UPDate: Talked to Lance and Mike at King, an
they do actually have a bunch of springs in stock, and Lance there at King was kind enough to spend some time going over exactly how I am looking for the rig to respond, then researching some different possible configs. The guy is a suspension guru when it comes to coil springs and link bar setups; very, very helpful with ideas. So I guess I'll head back to them. Thanks for the input all!

what's their number I need some springs, I have the shocks and am designing a 4link so if I can get the good info before hand it would be great.

do you drive it to the trail?

Right now it's not suitable to driveon the street to the corner gas station much less to the trail, but at some point I'd like to be able to at least drive it to the local trails... We'll see I guess, right now I have been calling King for their recommendations for the spring rates for the reconfig for ~3 weeks, and they were supposed to return my call with that info the next day (told that it would be ready in the next day or so each of the several times I've called them.) Hmmmm.

looking for the right coilover shock

I am building a Truggy. I have a 97 Ranger front end mated to a 84 Nissan frame. I am running a small block. I am using a set of F150 coils, I got from Kartek. The front end is way to stiff. I am looking at coilovers. How to you choice the right upper and lower spring? The truck in going to see the sand most of the time.

Give me a call or PM. We have many Eibach and HyperCoil springs in stock and can help determine correct rates for any application.

Its quite easy to determine correct spring rate especially if you have something on there right dow. To find the per corner spring weight you can measure the deflection of each spring per corner. Once you have the measurement the rest is cake.
