hey everybody

friend installed a 3 inch body lift on his 82 bronco. its an automatic and the gear selector is on the column, and after installing the lift we cant shift it into any gears. it looks like something broke inside the steering column because it isn't shifting the rod on the fire wall which runs to the tranny. im pulling off the steering wheel tomarrow to see what we can find, any ideas, or easy fixes though...thanks

Well, did it go "snap" or "pop" when he had both hands on it trying to get it to shift or was it when when he was jacking the body up? That's typically a pretty good indicator it's broken.

And this may be a silly question, but did he take the time to lengthen the shift linkage the 3" as well? (<---- feeling this is root of problem.)

If you didnt disconnect the linkage before lifting the body, chances are it broke something in the column. Look under the dash and find the semi-exposed linkage in between the firewall and column and see if the problem is there before tearing into the actual column.

if you have to ask this, its way over your head. go have it towed to a mechanic before you have someone killed by fixing your own column. :shaking:
