my roller fairlead is in pretty good shape other then one of the shafts that the side roller is on is pretty rusted

would there be any potential problems if i use a grade 8 bolt instead of the shaft

becuase i cant find a replacment shaft and dont want to pay more money to get a new fairlead

or does anyone know where i can get replacement shafts for the fairlead???

i could do that. but the new shaft costs 5 bucks..so i am wandering if it will be worth my trouble to do the sleeving and cutting a bolt to length

Go ahead and replace the shaft with a bolt. If you don't the snap ring will pop off the shaft for one of the side rollers. The shaft will walk out, the roller will fall to the ground, most likely into the huge hole you are trying to winch out of and you may even break your winch cable.
