Howdy all,

I am in the process of SOA the front of my CJ-8 and am planning on removing my front bumper and replacing it with a piece of steel welded to the frame in it's place.
I have loads of cracks in the front section of my "8" and I hope this mod will help keep the frame from flexing so much.
As I look up there (the front of my frame underneath the front bumper) I see a problem with having a permanant bar there.
I will have a hard time reaching the big ass bolts that hold my Warn winch plate to my frame and may have trouble getting to the steering box bolts in the future when it comes time to replace it again.

So I am wondering what you all have done when "Boxing" the front of your CJ frames.

Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Don't box it like you're proposing. Plate it with reinforcement plates like MORE sells. Then take 1" wide 3/16" strap and strap the top and bottom of the frame rails. Like this:

Why shouldn't I Box it?

I have the MORE reinforcement plates on already, if I didn't I'd have a broken in pieces frame 4 x over!
I like the strap idea, I think that is going to happen.

I don't think my description was clear of what I want to do.

I want to remove my front bumper and replace it with a piece of steel the spans the distance betwwen the front frame rail on the drivers side to the front frame rail on the passenger side.

maybe this will clear things up.

I did this....ripped off wheeling piazza, its basically a 4"x4"x.25" (forget exact measure) tube, and some angle iron etc for outboard stuff...
WHen I mount my winch I plan on drilling access holes to get nuts into when I bolt it down...

If you do that I wouldnt bother actually boxing in the frame rail if thats what you are talking about.

Thanks Chris!

That's what i wanted to see.

for some reason I was think ing to put the channel Inside my frame rails at the front, I like what you did, the channel out front of the Frame rails. Looks like there is plenty of room to bolt stuff on and off. The only drawback is the fact that the new channel sticks out 2" or so from the front.
Oh well I can't have everything!

Problem Solved.

Thanks again for the photo.
