Gen2 4Runner.

The brakes have never been great but in this day, where I drive at 80MPH on the freeways, I'm looking to upgrade my brake system.

The rear brake swap from drum to disc is well chronicled so I don't need that info.

What about the front discs? Is it possible to improve this area of the vehicle?

Larger discs will fit as I have 2016 17" Toyota tires and wheels from a FJ Cruiser.

Thanks for your input. =)

buy the brakes that match your wheels and mount them up?

don't drive 80mph?

please don't offer any other details on the rig though. that wouldn't help narrow this down in the least :shaking:

OP, you need to provide details so we can tailor our criticism to your particular kind of stupid

If youre driving 80 in a crawler, YOU ARE RETARDED.
Pretty sure a stock toy shouldn't be driven 80
Where I am now (shitty crowded city in a corrupt socialist shithole of a state) highway traffic tops out around 80-85 in the middle and left lane depending on traffic density and conditions. States that aren't a clusterfuck of people and don't play "mark it down to mark it up" with speed limits and fines see traffic speeds like that much more commonly. Back when I was living in a state with less people there stretches of highway were you'd be pushing triple digits in the right lane on certain stretches of highway.

Welcome to 2017 old man. Bais-ply tires and the national speed limit are ancient history.

If this fuck wants to drive at 80 he should at least do so with a similar degree of safety as every other clapped out work truck going that speed.

What master cylinder are you running?
What brake booster are you running?
What axles do you have?
How hot and slutty is your sister, girlfriend, and/or mom?
Pics of said female will help immensely

you know what is amazing about not driving 80-85 in those kinds of areas? at 65, people will just go around you and you won't spend most of your time stuck in high speed traffic. Folks drive in big packs and like birds fight each other over who is in front all the damn time. just drive slower and they will pass right around you and you will be in the clear until the next group catches up.

'course I don't do this in the passing lane

No bullshit, i once drove from Rausch Creek to Newport News ~300 miles with my truck. it was the ONLY time even compared to stock that i was able to get 22+mpg :smokin:

'course, i was limited to about 45mph on account of driveshaft vibe and it took me 8 hours but Physics that :flipoff2: I don't think the truck could make 80 mph, but noway in hell would it do it and get over 15mpg :flipoff2:

Yes, this is a crawler forum. At the same time where else do you go to get decent toy tech? It's all 17 year olds with how big of tire questions elsewhere.

I drive about 78mph on a 32 mile stretch of highway nearly everyday in a first gen on 235/85s (32x10s) and feel it's completely safe and stable.

OP, I am assuming this is still an ifs truck? In that case, rockauto has centric branded s13w calipers for t100s at a good price and they come loaded (pads). Then pick up a set of matching rotors from centric as well.

Not sure on mc/booster for 2nd gen runners. I upgraded to a booster off of a v6 second gen from junkyard and then an aisin mc from parts geek for a 94 v6 4runner.

I also got rid of the aging lspv and put an adjustable wilwood in its place. Adjusted so front locks on gravel first.

Truck brakes very well. Ymmv

well 17" wheels and tires and brakes have been around longer than this forum, and there is plenty of more recent tech threads on swapping around brakes. if the OP can't give us any specifics about what he is working on, how the hell could we even spoon feed him some links?
