89 XJ, With 87 YJ Front axle, and 98 8.8 rear axle (drum brake)

Before the 8.8 swap i had the d35 rear and it was doing the same thing, not grabbing / stopping. So today I replaced the 8.8 shoes and thew the rear up on stands, put it in DRIVE and hit the brake pedal, barely slowed down the rear axle, so at the moment the front is doing 90% of the stopping power

I dont think its the deferential valve because the sensor hasnt activated the brake light as if the pressure was uneven...

help?

also the brake fluid looks dirty even after bleeding atleast 1galon of fluid...

Did you adjust the new shoes after you put them on? The auto adjusters only work when put in reverse and have made a few stops.

Yes i did, and to add to that, the passenger side adjuster with new shoes is all the way down, and still rubbing on the drum badly and heating up like a sob!

Is it a used rear end? take your droms off and take them to a brake shop to be measured. You will probably need to know the year, make and model that it came off of. Does it loose fluid? Make sure your wheel cylinders are good.
