ok, i have 2 broken leafs in the rear of my 89. They are the same ones and are broken right behind the axle. They look like they have been broken for a bit. How bad is this? I dont notice it at all.

I'm assuming they're not the main's since you're still driving it. Your best bet is to pull the center pin out and pull the broken springs out and tighten up the center pin again. You don't want to be driving it when part of the spring falls out and your spring pack gets really loose. Depending on where the break is and which spring is broken you'll end up kinking one of your other springs in the pack or breaking your center pin (which is NOT good to have happen while your driving). Why not replace the broken leafs and be done with it???

Because they are a pain to find here. No yards have any toyotas here, and im assuming the leaf has been broken for a while. I will try to get a new set to relace it, but it may be a while.

I'll bet there are alot of people that have stock spring packs laying around. Post it one the wanted page.

I know a spring shop here that could replace those spring leaves for not too much.

also a good excuse to upgrade your springs. if you don't want to spend the $$$ for aftermarket springs, you can go to a junk yard and get some Mazda springs or Chevy springs and make up your own spring pack by combining your remaining leaves with the Chevy or Mazda springs. there are plenty of write ups on both. I think you might also be able to use Wagoneer or YJ springs too.

sounds like a good time to swap in some Chevy's (or other lift springs). I'll have stock springs off my '92 that I won't be needing, if you can wait a few weeks you can buy 'em off me cheap! Do like 2hightoy said above though, remove the broken leaves if there's any chance they could come off.

I wish. The rear is cheap but its a 89 =) a bit much of extra work just for 2 broken leafs. I may call national spring and see if they can get me a replacement one.

daily driver? HEY, ME TOO!! Swapping Chevys into the rear won't make it 'less streetable.' I'm doing the same thing to my daily driver, I should be done in a few weeks. You can have my springs for cheap then.

Look in the phone book for a spring shop near you and have them make you a couple of leafs, should not cost that much. I had some made for my little trailer and I think they were about fifteen dollars apiece.
