I am planning on doing a live axle swap in the front of my Blazer, and I was planning on using a dana 44 out of a 77' Ford Bronco. I have access to a whole Bronco minus the rear for $300. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the width backing plate to backing plate, or WMS to WMS?

Why a 77 Bronco. Won't you be shunned from the Cheby crowd?? I am not positive, but if I remember correctly it is 67" wms to wms. But I may be wrong, when I did my swap I mesured too many things to remember.. But depending on the year of your Blazer I think a 77' front end is too narrow. Try to find the front out of a 78 or 9 Bronco, they are high pinion, and 4" wider. plus they are cheaper at pic n pull. Hell there was one in Fairfield last week for $150, but I took the Knuckles.

Unless you are running a Ford transfer case it wont work. The Ford's hade the differential on the drivers side while the Chevys have the Diff on the passengers side. Not sure about the width but I would think an EB front would be too narrow. A 78-79 Bronco front would probably measure closer to a Blazer

My Blazer is a 99' ZR2 it is a the S-10 based blazer with the off road package. The wheel stance is wider than a a regular S-10 blazer. it's the one with the 8.5" 10 bolt rear not the 7.5" ten bolt rear, and yes the fron dif is on the driver side, that's why I was condisering a ford axle, it GM had not decided to switch the dif on the passenger side, with the introduction of IFS, I may not be having such a hard time finding an axle. And help on finding a dana 44 from a ford would be appreciated.

EB widths are around 59" and 78-79 widths are 65". I have a D44 from a 1972 K5 if you want it. You will have to replace everything from the spindles out. Right hand drop, 3.55, leaf spring mounts. Cheap.

If you need the diff on the passengers side a Ford axle wont work. The Ford's are all on the drivers side
