Just finished up the spare tire carrier on my bronco II. I cut the skin off the original lift gate and mounted it to an aluminum frame that would support the weight of the tire and wheel. 3/4" heims were used for the hinges. I used the lift gate latch and moved it to the lower right corner as well as door latches and striker bolts.

that might get hard on your struts. id rock it though.
Figuring out the strut pressure was a little tricky. The factory ones were 100# each. When I did the calculations I came up with needing a pair of 300# ones. They ended up being too strong, I had to hang on it to get it to close. My wife couldn't even budge it. I dropped down to 250 #ers and it's working good.

Very nifty. More pics of your B2 or do you have a build thread somewhere?
Thanks man. I don't have a build thread on this thing but there are some pics of the cage in another thread. I think the thread was "pics of you're bronco II" or something like that.
