Hey guys,

my names mike I have a samurai long wheel base which is currently getting a set of Volvo c306 axles

just wondering if many other usa cars ran them and if so what setups of drivetrain did they use.

I don't have an answer for you, but check out Dirt Lifestyle on Youtube. He is currently putting Mog portals under a Suzuki tube buggy. Might be able to get some insight there.

Those would be sweet under my next build... Ground clearance galore!! In Canada not a lot of stuff seems to use portals. Hardly see any. On some importa like rarely seen Volvo trucks and some other military rigs but not often. Or I hang around the wrong crowd.

Cool your doing something different.
Part of the appeal of the samurai is being small and light. You’re kinda toeing the line. There’s a “popular” tuber that’s putting portals on his as well .

Think they said there unimog axles going on that’s one, very cool but also very heavy !!

I’m not sure what a c303 Volvo axles weighs, around 160kg I think? Rear probs 130 ish?
Il do some research into it.

So the basic plan is 3 link front and 4 link rear

doing this in case the axles don’t work with the car, if that’s the case I wouldn’t have changed the chassis setup so can go back to my suzuki axles.

spring mounts have been lowered to try and lower the car slightly, but portal cars are always going to be tall I guess.

Yea I guess. But not due to excessive suspension lift. That likely helps the CG stay low overall ...
