2wd pan is shallow, 1-1.5 deep and totally flat. 4wd pan has an additional inch or so "sump" that runs side to side across the middle of the pan.
Why do you need a thicker material?? I have always welded in my own drain setups on the stock pans- use a stich technique to keep from blowing on through.
