With all of the action taking place on the Eldorado DEIS, something else is also happening. The California state OHV program is due to expire at the end of this year. Senate bill #742 has been going through the legislative process to revamp and continue the OHV program. It has been on a very unstable path with the OHV and environmental communities bumping heads at the bargaining table.

SB742 is finally scheduled to be heard in the assembly appropriations committee tomorrow, the 29th. The latest version of the bill is not yet up on the legislative web site for the public to read.

The OHV program has controlls about $60 million a year. It finances the State Vehicle Recreation Areas and grant money ($18 million) for local and federal agencies to use for OHV related projects.
