First of all.....my "RTF Director" status has ZERO to do with CalStar. I've been promoting CalStar for FOTR simply because I had a friend get screwed on a helicopter ride over 10 YEARS AGO.....I do it as a service to my friends and family in the 4 wheeling community.

One has NOTHING to do with the other.

Reach is purchasing CalStar.....CalStar memberships are being merged into Reach. How this works? I don't know. Will it cost more? I don't know. Will it serve the same area? I don't know. Do I have a personal opinion on pricing? Yeah....I live in the real world....does pricing usually go down after a merger? LOL

I would have loved to post full details...If I had any idea. I've traded VM with the new sales guy.

If you go back to the first post...I posted it in 2006. Way before I had any involvement with RTF. You post it like it's impossible for anyone to have any interests or passions outside of RTF.:shaking:

Thanks for the clarification Ken, much appreciated. As a side note you may want to edit your post. Not very becoming of an RTF director to be cursing on a forum where it is prohibited, some might misconstrue that as anger ;)

Have a great day,
Tim.

Done. Yeah...anger at the hardship his family went through...they did get F'd. That's why I promoted the FOTR discount at CalStar...I was pissed off they were ruin over it. Thanks for quoting it so I can't fix it.

This is good to know I'm going to look into it and probably buy coverage for me and my Wife, Also just as a possible alternative in case this doesn't work out my AAA Premier Membership includes up to 25k in Emergency Medical Transport coverage.

From their Website

Emergency Medical Transportation: Up to $25,000 for medically necessary transportation to the nearest appropriate facility if your sick/injured during a Covered trip. See the Premier Handbook for more information.

Not sure if Trail trips are considered a Covered Trip
(From the AAA Handbook "“Covered Travel” means a planned leisure automobile trip
in the Covered Person’s Vehicle which has taken the Covered
Person at least one hundred (100) driving miles from his or
her Primary Residence when the incident occurs; which was
intended to include at least one overnight stay within the
United States or Canada; and which does not exceed, and was
not planned to exceed, forty-five (45) consecutive days. Please
note: 1) the Covered Person must be at least 100 driving
miles from the AAA Premier Member’s Primary Residence
when the incident occurs in order to be eligible for the
benefits; and 2) for Emergency Medical Transportation
ONLY, coverage is available worldwide."

I have nothing to do with AAA just noticed this when I renewed my membership last time and wanted to share.

More details, kind of.....................
Calstar, the regional air ambulance service based at McClellan, and Santa Rosa’s Reach Air Medical Services announced Thursday that they are entering into a merger agreement that will create the largest network of air ambulance bases in California.

Finally done. Been in the works for A WHILE.

I know what the Reach Memberships are...but I don't even think CalStar knows if they keep using their membership plans or move to Reach yet...which is why I don't know yet.

A standard Reach is $65...but it's 32 states, so significantly more coverage.

I just received a call from the sales person at Reach.

What we know.

- CalStar will still exist for now.

- All memberships currently with CalStar will be honored by Reach.

- Reach membership will be $65, but they are offering $55. This is valid in 32 states. Much larger reach, no pun. But as of right now, you do NOT need to switch.

What we don't know.

What will happen in the future when your CalStar membership expires. Those details are still being worked out.

I received a membership renewal yesterday for CalStar. Will be interesting to see for how long or when Reach starts to honor CalStar.

Definitely.

As I suspected, there's a pretty significant price difference...$30 to $55. We're kind of spoiled, having so many members going from $45 to $30. $45 to $55, isn't that big of difference...but $30 to $55 is.

Now granted...that does cover you in 32 states, so I see the value there....but I also know the overwhelming majority has this for Rubicon and Fordyce, so 32 states is a big whoopee.

The rep promised to call me when he gets any word on those decisions. Not expecting that call tomorrow or maybe never...but after a couple months...I'll ping him.

For now....renew as normal until someone says differently.

I'll actually be happy to see coverage outside of NorCal. Whenever I go to the Hammers, or other areas in NV, SoCal, etc there is no CalStar coverage, so I'd be totally fine to pony up another $25 to get that coverage. Seriously - its $25... thats a case a Coors or a couple six packs of decent beer.

Ken,

I got the same renewal notice.

The website says a $65 membership. Are we still getting a discount with FOTR?

Doug
The Reach discount is $55 for FOTR. Let me send an email to the rep, as to what you need to do in order to get it.

If you still want CalStar, I would try....they told me they were still honoring the current CalStar discount...if that's not the case, I'd be interesting in knowing.

Got this email on Friday should clear some stuff up...

Dear Eric,

Thank you for your commitment to CALSTAR and our membership program. As you may have heard, CALSTAR will soon merge with REACH Air Medical Services, which will provide you with access to the nation's largest air ambulance membership program, the AirMedCare Network.

Once the transition to the AirMedCare Network is complete, you will receive a tremendous added value to your annual membership, including:
• Access to over 240 air ambulance locations across 32 states
• Full coverage for all medically-necessary transports provided by CALSTAR, REACH Air Medical Services, Air Evac Lifeteam and Med-Trans Corporation (all participating providers in the AirMedCare Network)
• No out-of-pocket expense in connection to your flight
• No total flight limitations
• Membership covers everyone that resides at your primary address
We are currently working through the final stages of this merger, and all members will be notified of the details once they are finalized. If you currently have a membership with both CALSTAR and REACH, please maintain your memberships with both programs during this transition period to guarantee continued protection for you and your loved ones. The next notification will be mailed to you directly by the AirMedCare Network and will include instructions on how to merge the two active memberships.

If you have any questions regarding this update, please contact our Membership Office at (888) 207-5433 or [email protected]. For more information on the benefits offered by the AirMedCare Network, please visit AirMedCare Network - Medical Flight Transport Service - Your Family Is Priceless or contact their office toll-free at (800) 793-0010.

Please note that as part of the impending transition, CALSTAR will no longer be eligible to accept charitable donations. For all donations received to date, we will honor our donors' wishes to apply their funds as intended. Fortunately, CALSTAR's charitable mission will live on with the establishment of a new not-for-profit foundation to benefit the public, and more details will be shared when available.

To all of our members and contributors, past and present, we are truly grateful for your incredible support of CALSTAR over the years. The good work we have accomplished together will continue to have a positive effect on the lives of many within our shared communities for years to come.

Sincerely,

Mike Nichols
Director of Development & Outreach

I got a letter from CalStar/AirMedCare today. Basically says everything in the previous post. CalStar membership transferred to AirMedCare as of Sept 1 2016. One interesting paragraph said:

"Our records indicate that you are affiliated with F.O.T.R. This group affiliation will not continue through the AirMedCare Network."

Membership price for 2017 is $65. So no more group discount but it looks like there is more coverage. You get CalStar, REACH, Air Evac Lifeteam, and Med-Trans.
