What oil you using for cam break in? I used Valv racing oil last time, as it still supposedly has boatloads of zinc, but it is also straight 50W which I feel is too heavy. Have also been using Crane cam break in lube.

I've wiped a couple cams in the past few years and heard rumors of the old tried and true lifter manufacturers going out of business (which caused teething problems with the new manufacturers??).

Rotella for everything. conventional for break in, synth for everything else.

I belive that any diesel oil will have more zinc than others, but I have never had a problem with rotella and have never heard of anyone who broke a cam in with it failing. And I have heard of cams going flat from improper break in.

I've always used the 15/40 Rotella. Its true that the new formula has less zinc, so don't skimp on the bottle of zinc additive as well.
