I'm widening an Fj80 front axle 2 inches on each side to match a 67" WMF to WMF wide T100 rear end.

I noticed this pressed in ring on the inside of the knuckle balls after I cut them free of the factory Fj80 housing.

Is it just an axle guide? I can't find it in the exploded diagrams of the front axle from Toyota. I'm assuming it's no longer made. I'm concerned I'll need to potentially remove it if I need the OD turned on the knuckle ball to fit in a fabricated housing.

Is it necessary or can I leave it out?

Does anyone here by chance have a part number if it is needed?

I’m familiar with it from a Fj80 axle I’m presently rebuilding. I have not seen anything like in fj40/60 axles. Your right I think it’s an axle guide. My question for you is what was your approach on removing the knuckle balls. Do you have any pics? I have a bent axle housing and would like to save the balls for a Toyota mini build. Thanks.
