I'm thinking about getting a set of those Rockstomper beadlocks, and might be road driving them. Sounds like a stupid question, but what are the odds of being able to get them balanced?

It will largely depend on your choice of tire. I would go with the stick on weights myself. Close is good enough.

since you are not messing with your inner bead, I would suggest a combination of stick on weights and clip on weights on the inner bead to get you balanced.

Having already balanced a few myself (a friend owns a tire balancer) and talked to the tire shops about it (assuming I don't want to drive an hour plus each way to use the friend's balancer) I tried a little experiment.

I put a package of 3/8" steel shot (about a half pound) slingshot ammo in each tire. In the tire itself, prior to putting the beadlock together.

It works. It makes a funny sound (kinda like a waterfall) when you roll the tire around the shop, but I can't hear it on the road at all, and at about $3 a tire, it's a fair bit cheaper than paying somebody to do it "right"... or, in my case, not being able to find anybody less than an hour's drive each way, away from me, that'll do it at all. The local shops don't want to touch beadlocks for liability reasons. I think it's kinda BS, but the friend (he owns a tire shop) with the balancer, says that he doesn't care, 'cause he knows I won't come back and blame him. He did say that if somebody just "dropped by" with beadlocks, they'd get a long spiel about how he wasn't going to be responsible for blahblahblahblah... but he's the same guy who'll do an alignment on a circletrack car to the point that you almost can't turn right with it.

Anybody had longterm experience with either the slingshot ammo or the golf balls? Any negative effects on the tires? Sounds kind of like using Equal, except this may work.
