I will eighter be runnign a 727 auto of TH400 with 38's possibly 39's later

was thinking of 5.38's but don't want to make em to low and spin tires easy

A good combo I've seen for a good lauch up obstacls wihout spinning easy was 456 with 38's but I have no Idea how long the tranny lasted.

I really want to look for downhill freindly too!
so what do ya think/what works for you!

(street does not matter)

I run a 727 on 38's with 5.13 gears. I found this ratio for me was not low enough. (with a D- 20).Later geared it down 4 times as low.
I guess it depends on how you drive and what you use it for. If it were mine I would go low as you can without too weak of a R&P. <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">

go 5.89's and then, if you have a prob spinning the tires, just let off the gas a little and pedal it like drag racers do. Slickrock in moab is the same as pavement as far as traction goes.

I have 4:56's with a turbo 350 and np 205 with 36's. I like it pretty good on the road but it's not low enough sometimes off road. I'm planning on putting a Klune in it. I don't think I'd go more than 5:13's because of pinion strength issues. I ran 6:20's in a drag car years ago and had problems. jmho

austin: are you saying your afraid the 5.38's are too low and are going to cause wheel spin issues? I think this is more of a throttle issue then gears. I would gear it so you have enough power to still have fun! if its not driven on the street go low as possible. I plan running 4.3/th350/toy-case/4.10 and if it wasnt street driven would go 5.29's. I feel you can threshold throttle and keep traction, but who knows maybe your on to something being underpowered to keep from spinning(kinda a poor mans traction control) I just feel this is less versitle for when you need a little more power. If you have to much you can always back off the throttle but if you don't have enough your just screwed!

AH!
Just talked to one of my buddies that has a manual valve bodie. the second gear thing will fix all my worries so I can bog down!

Ordered my gears (5.38) this morning for my 60+44 but had to cancel them cause I found a front 60 for $350, so gotta get that befor I get gears!

Man I hope I can get this thing together before you all come down in OCT.
