I seem to have this problem , my truck idles fine , but when I rev it it up , it runs real rich , black smoke out the exhaust , then it pops when I let off the gas , the popping I believe is from the massive exhaust leak at the manifold where it mounts to the head , but the other part

Is the choke sticking? It does not have to be stuck all the way closed to cause a rich mixture. One of my partners screwed the top of his aircleaner down to tight and warped the top of the carb and it did not allow the choke to open all the way!!! Is your air cleaner clean?

Clean out your carb, while it is runnin spare some carb cleaner in there, maybe somethin is stickin on ya.

The popping from your exhaust is probably your timing. I had the popping sound after reving the engine but don't remember there being black smoke. Found the timing to be 4 degrees off (to advanced) and also changed the spark plugs to Toyota O.E.M parts and popping went away. This also fixed my high speed pinging problems also.
