So I have a Cobra 25 and first...where do you guys mount them? I am still unsure as to where I want it.

Next, I mount a cb (radio shack) 4ft antenna on the rear bumper. This was all given to me as a gift so I figured it was worth a try. Now..it works, but I can talk to my friend when he gets like half a mile away. Should it be mounted up front, higher, etc? Or is it the cheap radioshack atenna and should I buy a Wilson or FIrestik?

CBs mount nicely between spreader bars, and as far as the antennae, if you are mounting it on your bumper and your buddy is behind you and you cannot talk then putting it elsewhere is not going to improbe on that much. You might have your SWRs checked, but in all honesty if you are using your CB on the trail and your buddy has left you a half mile away you probably need a new buddy. If you want true power then have your CB peakes and tweaked at a CB shop, and if your in there alone with the guy inquire as to whether or not he has a linear for sale. Good luck in your quest for communications. I am a hitech *******, and use the cell phone LOL

Is the ground for the antenna hooked up good? The best place to put a CB is in the middle of your rig. Now most of cant do that so do the best you can. If you have it on the rear bumper the CB will work its best talking to people in front of you due to the ground plane of the vehicle but doest work as well talking to people behind you. But first of all check the antenna ground.
